About Us

Fire Department Profile

The Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department is one of six departments in Bridgewater Township and covers approximately fourteen square miles in the northern end of the township. The department has two fire stations and seven pieces of apparatus. Martinsville's response area is Bridgewater Fire District 1.

The department is comprised completely of volunteers that are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There are currently about 40 active members.

Obituary

Bridgewater- Jeffrey J. Koerner, Sr., 70, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 10, 2023. He was born to Theodore J. Koerner and Doris (Ziegler) Koerner. A lifelong resident of Bridgewater Township, Jeff lived much of his early years in the Martinsville section before moving to Bound Brook and finally the Green Knoll section in 2016. Jeff was a 1970 graduate of Immaculata High School. Jeff worked a 40 year career for Bridgewater Twp. Public Works retiring in 2016 as a general foreman. In his free time Jeff enjoyed hunting, classic cars, and relaxing with his German Shepherd, Bandit. He was firefighter and life member serving 54 years for the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department. Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Susan (Puma) Koerner; children, Jeffrey J. Koerner, Jr. of Bridgewater, Christopher Koerner of FL, Andrew Koerner and fiancé, Alyson Monaco of South Bound Brook, step-daughter Sara Miller, and a sister, Sue Graham of VA. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Friday, March 17, 2023 at the funeral home followed by burial at St. Bernard Cemetery in Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Dept, or Somerset Regional Animal Shelter.
